PR & Company

education innovation

Our passion for education and youth is the cornerstone of PR & Company’s work.

Defining why summer learning matters. Launching transitional kindergarten to meet the needs of today’s young learners. Expanding access to STEM (Science, Technology Engineering & Math) education. These are just a few of the innovations in the public education system in which PR & Company has been engaged and played an integral role.

From providing strategic framing for the burgeoning national community schools movement, to waging the successful campaign that “saved” transitional kindergarten in California, PR & Company applies creativity, strategic insight, political savvy, diverse connections, and nimble execution to advance demonstrable, positive change in public education.

Our clients and partners include: California PTA, California STEM Learning Network (CSLNet), California STEM Symposium California Teacher Pathways, Coalition for Community Schools, David & Lucile Packard Foundation, Early Edge California, Encore Teachers Program, GreatSchools, and Partnership for Children & Youth.

CDE 2nd Annual Stem Symposium

Bringing Thousands of Educators Together to Emphasize the Importance of STEM

Building the growing momentum for high quality STEM education, PRCO partnered with State Superintendent Tom Torlakson, California Department of Education Foundation, and the Commission on the Status of Women and Girls to inspire, motivate, and engage more than 3,000 educators at the 2nd Annual California STEM Symposium in San Diego.

From promoting the event to local educator networks, to securing sponsors like PG&E, to generating statewide media coverage, PRCO’s insights, connections, and tireless outreach proved vital to the Symposium’s visibility.

Summer Matters Campaign

Changing the Conversation

The Partnership for Children and Youth (PCY) works to expand high quality summer learning programs for low-income youth to prevent “summer learning loss” and help close the achievement gap. PRCO created the statewide Summer Matters Campaign to engage and activate school district leaders, parents, civic and business leaders to champion high quality summer learning for all California students.

The campaign has fundamentally changed the conversation from “Does summer learning matter?” to “Summer learning is essential!”

Early Edge California

Saving Kindergarten for 125,000 Students

When funding for implementing transitional kindergarten in California was threatened, Early Edge California needed rapid response. PRCO launched the statewide Save Kindergarten Campaign to mobilize school districts, superintendents, educators, parents, business and civic leaders into a powerful advocacy force for California’s youngest learners.

In less than six months, PRCO saved transitional kindergarten for 125,000 students and “TK” is now fully implemented in classrooms across the state.

STEM Education

Driving STEM Education Innovation Across California and Beyond

With STEM a top education priority in California and the U.S., PRCO has spearheaded strategy, communications, and sponsorship for numerous statewide and national initiatives to advance STEM education.

We’ve successfully launched everything from the California STEM Learning Network’s STEM Summit, to EnCorps Teachers Program’s STEMposium, to the Summer Matters’ “Summer is STEMtastic!” campaign, securing new partners, corporate supporters and visibility.

California Teacher Pathway

Strategic Capacity Building to Create the Next Generation of Teachers

California Teacher Pathway, which guides students from underserved communities to pursue teaching careers, turned to PRCO to refine their organizational model and hone their communications strategy. Working with their core team and external stakeholders, we developed and refined a clear “Strategic Framework” to inform organizational structure, programmatic strategy, and external branding and messaging.

This new positioning has paved the way for new strategic partnerships, stronger funding relationships, and expansion of their program across California.
