The fate of California lies with our children. We can keep alive the California dream by prioritizing the children and by creating an education system that truly fosters their growth. I recently recorded a podcast with the fantastic Carol Kocivar about the importance of branding in improving public education advocacy.
Today, and for a long time now, California is last in the nation in terms of public school rankings. Simultaneously, California is consistently one of the top 10 richest states in the nation. That is a tremendous disconnect, and our children are suffering for it. Statewide, we can and ought to prioritize a top-notch public education system.
Parents in California can understand, for example, that a lack of resources means that California is only of the only states that doesn’t have school nurses. That not every school has a dedicated librarian.
There needs to be an emphasis on the whole child, including their social emotional learning. We must prioritize an equitable way of funding our schools so that all students have opportunity to thrive.
